Napster, the online MP3 music file transfer system has been ordered to end the use of its software which aids the copying of protected material between 'net users. The US court has accepted the RIAA's view that the Napster system is an illegal operation and has given Napster until midnight on Friday (US Pacific Time) to cease.

This may not be the end though, Napster's CEO Hank Barry commented: "The judge said that one-to-one non-commercial file sharing violates the law. We will fight this in a variety of ways".

Once Naspter does close down, the RISC OS client, Riscster, will be rendered useless because the servers it connects to for file lists will no longer be present.
